Roblox Keeps Crashing — How to Stop It

2 min read Updated

A single Roblox crash is usually a fluke. Crashes that happen every few minutes point at a real problem — most often graphics drivers, overheating, an out-of-date client, or a specific game with a memory leak.

Update graphics drivers

Outdated GPU drivers are the number-one cause of repeatable Roblox crashes on PC. Visit the NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel website, download the newest driver for your card, and run a clean install. Don't rely on Windows Update for graphics drivers — it lags months behind.

Lower graphics settings

If Roblox crashes a few minutes into play, your device may be running out of VRAM. Open Esc → Graphics Mode → Manual and drop the slider to 4 or lower.

Watch for overheating

Laptops and phones throttle and then crash when they overheat. Touch the bottom of the device — if it's hot to the touch, move to a hard flat surface, raise the screen, and shut down any background apps. Clean dust from laptop vents twice a year.

Reinstall cleanly

If crashes started after a Roblox update or a Windows update, uninstall Roblox, delete the leftover folder under %LocalAppData%/Roblox, and reinstall from roblox.com.

Crashes only in one game

Some experiences load enormous worlds with hundreds of scripts. If only one game crashes, it's not your device — try the lowest-graphics setting, and if it still crashes, the issue is with that game.

Common mistakes

  • Running multiple recording or overlay apps at once (Discord overlay + GeForce Experience + OBS).
  • Setting graphics to maximum on hardware that can't handle it.
  • Ignoring Windows updates for months at a time.

Frequently asked questions

Why does Roblox crash on my phone?
Usually it's RAM pressure or overheating. Close other apps, give the phone a few minutes to cool, and try again.
Does Roblox crash because of a virus?
Rarely. Unwanted software can crash any app though — run a full Defender scan if crashes started suddenly with no other changes.
Will more RAM stop crashes?
Only if the crashes are caused by RAM pressure. Check Task Manager — if memory hits 95%+ before the crash, more RAM will help.
Why does Roblox crash right after I press Play?
That pattern points at a graphics driver issue or a broken install. Update drivers first, then reinstall Roblox.
