Roblox Parental Controls Guide

2 min read Updated

Roblox's parental controls live under Settings on the website and inside the app. They are all free and take about ten minutes to configure. The most important one is the parent PIN — without it, a child can undo every other setting.

Start with the parent PIN

  1. Sign in to roblox.com (or open the app) using the child's account.
  2. Open Settings → Parental Controls.
  3. Set a 4-digit PIN that only the parent knows.
  4. From this point on, any safety-related setting requires the PIN to change.

Set Account Restrictions

Account Restrictions is a strict mode that limits games to those Roblox has reviewed and rated for younger players. Toggle it on from Settings → Parental Controls. Inside the child's experience the menu narrows to age-appropriate games only.

Restrict chat

Under Privacy, you can:

  • Limit who can chat with the account (Everyone / Friends / No one).
  • Limit who can message the account.
  • Limit who can invite into a game.
  • Disable in-experience chat entirely.

Set spending limits

Under Settings → Billing → Spending, you can require parental approval for every purchase. This sends an email when the child tries to buy anything with Robux or with the linked store account.

Check the activity dashboard

The parent dashboard at roblox.com/parents lets a parent see recent games, friends, and login activity at a glance. Bookmark it and check weekly.

Operating system controls help too

On iOS, Android, Xbox, and PlayStation, the platform's own family controls add another layer — screen time limits, purchase locks, and total bans. Combine them with Roblox's own controls for the strongest setup.

You can reset it from the parent email linked to the account.
Are parental controls free?
Yes, all of them. Roblox does not charge for safety features.
Does Roblox have screen time limits?
Not directly. Use your phone or console's screen-time tools to limit Roblox playtime.
