Roblox Error Code 403 — Authentication Failed

2 min read Updated

Error 403 is an authentication problem: the server understood your request but refused it because it couldn't confirm who you are. It usually appears when joining a game after a long idle, after a Roblox update, or when something has interfered with your browser cookies.

Quick fixes that solve most cases

  1. Sign out of Roblox completely, then sign back in.
  2. Clear cookies for roblox.com in your browser settings.
  3. Close every Roblox window, including the player in your system tray, and rejoin.
  4. Disable browser extensions, especially ad blockers and privacy tools, then retry.

If you launch from a browser

When the join handler can't pass your session token to the desktop client, you'll see 403. Make sure you are signed in on the same browser you're launching from. On Edge, try toggling "Allow sites to save and read cookie data" off and back on for roblox.com.

If 403 appears on every game

This points at a clock skew or a corrupted cookie. Verify your system date and time are accurate (and set to the correct time zone), then clear cookies and sign in again.

Account safety check

If 403 appears suddenly along with notifications you didn't trigger, sign in from a trusted device and rotate your password. Then review our guide on protecting your Roblox account.

Frequently asked questions

Why am I getting error 403 only on one game?
That game may require a minimum account age or a badge you don't have. Other 403s would appear everywhere.
Will clearing cookies log me out of other sites?
Yes, but only if you clear all cookies. Most browsers let you clear cookies for a single site (roblox.com) and leave the rest alone.
Is error 403 dangerous?
It's not dangerous on its own, but unexpected 403s combined with login alerts you didn't trigger are a sign to check your account security.
Do I need to reinstall Roblox to fix error 403?
Almost never. Re-authentication and clearing cookies fixes the vast majority of 403 cases.
