How to Play Roblox on Mobile

2 min read Updated

Roblox runs surprisingly well on phones and tablets. The catch is that some big games are built for PC and won't perform well on a small screen — choose games designed for mobile and you'll have a smooth experience.

Install Roblox

Search for Roblox in the App Store (iOS) or Play Store (Android) and install the official Roblox Corporation app. Avoid sideloaded APK files.

Touch controls

  • Left side of the screen: virtual joystick for movement.
  • Right side: drag to look around.
  • Tap the jump button to jump.
  • Pinch to zoom.
  • Tap the chat icon to type, the menu icon for settings.

Better performance

  • Close background apps before launching.
  • Lower graphics in Esc → Settings if the game stutters.
  • Plug in or stop playing once the phone gets hot — overheating throttles performance.
  • Use Wi-Fi when possible to save mobile data; large games download hundreds of megabytes.

Frequently asked questions

Does Roblox use a lot of data?
First-time downloads of big games can be 200–500 MB. After that, ongoing play uses much less. Stick to Wi-Fi for initial joins.
Why does my phone get hot playing Roblox?
Real-time 3D rendering is demanding. Lower graphics, take breaks, and don't play under a blanket.
Can I use a controller on mobile?
Yes — most Bluetooth controllers work with the Roblox mobile app.
Is the mobile version different?
Same games, simpler controls. A few games hide PC-only features on phones.
